In the 2014-2020 period, BBI JU has launched annual calls for project proposals. All stakeholders - large industries, SMEs, technology providers, primary producers, academia and research organisations - have been able to apply and contribute to the development of a sustainable bioeconomy in Europe.
Current funding opportunities
There are no more open funding opportunities at the moment. Call 2020, the last BBI JU call, offered funding to 18 new projects worth €104.5 million. New funding opportunities are expected to open when the successor of BBI JU, the Circular Bio-Based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU), is launched.
Rules for participation
The Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking operates under Horizon 2020 rules and applies the principles of openness, transparency and excellence. In other words, everyone can participate and the best proposals – evaluated by independent experts – will win.
