European Research and Innovation Days is the European Commission’s annual flagship event, bringing together policymakers, researchers, entrepreneurs and citizens to debate and shape the future of research and innovation in Europe and beyond.
Research and innovation will be key to ensure that the transition to a post-corona society is sustainable, inclusive and resilient. This year's format will provide an opportunity to connect, take stock of research and innovation achievements in the global response to the pandemic and build on the EU’s response: worldwide coordination of excellent science for global health, social and economic recovery.
Philippe Mengal, the Executive Director of BBI JU, will speak in the following conference sessions :
- 'Synergies: new opportunities on the Horizon' on 22 September 12.45-13.30
Speakers: Gernot Marx, Lowri Evans, Sabine Klok, Paul Webb, Philippe Mengal
With reference to Annex IV of the Horizon Europe Regulations, this session will demonstrate the importance of synergies between Horizon Europe and other EU policies and programmes, present the current efforts and state of play, and consider how to realise synergies by design as a built-in part of EU actions in the future. Philippe Mengal will present the BBI JU model and its synergies with other initiatives.
- 'Synergies – Innovative instruments for implementation' on 23 September 12.00-13.00
Speakers: Paul Webb, Philippe Mengal, Ann Mettler
To maximize synergies and boost impact of the European R&I programmes, it is essential to offer the best possible conditions for the deployment of innovative solutions. This requires intense interaction with the private sector and the banking sector, and the use of innovative ways to get results. In this session, a few selected initiatives and instruments will be presented, leading to a discussion on how research funders can “go the extra mile” to make synergies happen, making use of existing instruments and creating new ones. Philippe Mengal will present the BBI JU Synergy Label during the session.
Both sessions are part of the Hub 4 'Horizon Europe'.
