The 10th European Innovation Summit is taking place from 26 – 29 November 2018 in and around the European Parliament in Brussels, and address hot topics currently on the policy agenda, developments in sectors crucial for Europe’s competitiveness and emerging technologies. During the Summit, Philippe Mengal, Executive Director of BBI JU, will speak at the Dinner debate "Chemical industry & innovation partnerships: Impact assured!" organized in cooperation with CEFIC on 27 November.
Partnerships form a significant and important part of the European Commission's Research and Innovation Framework Programs. The chemical industry has been an instrumental partner in the various programs, over the last decade. With over €20B of the Horizon 2020 budget allocated to different forms of partnership, one should re-evaluate the different types of innovation partnerships and the value of continuing impact delivering partnerships in Horizon Europe.
The proposal for the next EC Innovation Framework Program simplifies partnerships to three types: co-Programmed, co-Funded and Institutional. This new model does not guarantee the continuation of impact delivering partnerships like SPIRE or BBI JU, where the chemical industry plays a key role. Partnerships bring collaboration along the innovation eco-system, enable cross-sectorial collaboration, and deliver fast replication of innovative solutions throughout multiple sectors. This event will discuss how partnerships committed to innovation and addressing fundamental challenges can develop a solid portfolio of projects geared to deliver impact with the objectives to re-industrialise and develop global market leadership in selected value chains.
