EFIB 2019 | Brussels, Belgium

30 September 2019 to 02 October 2019
Brussels, Belgium

The 2019 edition of the European Forum for Industrial Biotechnology & the Bioeconomy (EFIB) will take place 30 September – 2 October in Brussels, Belgium. Participants will be provided with an update on the status and outlook of biobased industries. EFIB fosters engagement between policy makers, a broad range of stakeholders connected with the existing biobased value chain and seeks to reach out to, and include, new interlocutors.

The EFIB 2019 programme covers the future of materials, food and feed, industrial processes in three major tracks on conference day 1 of the conference.  On conference day 2 further topics include the usage of novel feedstocks such as CO2 or waste as a resource for bio-based processes. The dynamic political landscape from Brexit in UK to the growing innovation power of China will be discussed as well in an own track on global bioeconomies. A plenary session on Day 2 will also discuss the challenge of establishing a sustainable financing environment and of integrating industrial biotechnology and bioeconomy companies in financial categories which try to map sustainable businesses.

The conference will also offer a lively exhibition, Start-up Village and a new “The Taste of the Future”-evening reception, providing product samples and tastings of novel food products, a guided tour through the innovation areas and start-up pitches.

BBI JU Executive Director Philippe Mengal will chair a plenary session on "Bio-based industry showcase – How to efficiently interlink bioeconomy and circular economy" on 2 October.
