Bio-based products for growth and jobs in the EU: the crucial role of regions in boosting the bioeconomy and the circular economy

The workshop aims to outline the economic and growth potential of the European bio-based economy by developing innovative capabilities in SMEs. It will present concrete examples of how regional authorities can foster Smart Specialisation Strategies (RIS3) to exploit this potential. Examples include how the Finnish Ministry implemented the Bioeconomy strategy for accelerating new areas of growth through a biorefinery competition which was won by 3 SMEs.
There will also be a presentation of best project approaches that can boost the development of emerging industries and build the link with regional smart specialization strategies, in synergy with other EU funding sources, such as Horizon 2020 and the EIB financial instruments.
